How Getpotted Delivers Live Plants
Buying live plants online is different from buying anything else. A planter arrives, and either it's the right one or it isn't; a plant arrives, and the way it's grown, packed and delivered decides how it looks in a month, a season, and years from now. Our live plant range is set up around that reality — from how we source, to how we pack, to what arrives at your door.
Sourced directly from established growers
The plants in our range come from specialist UK and European nurseries with a track record of consistent quality. That means healthy root systems, properly hardened plants, and specimens that have been grown properly rather than forced quickly to market.
Packed for the journey
Live plants are fragile cargo. Our packing team wraps root balls, secures the plant against movement inside the box, and uses seasonal packaging appropriate for the weather — so plants arrive in the condition they left in, not battered from a rough delivery.
Delivered planting-ready
Every plant arrives with its root ball intact, moist and ready to be transferred straight into your chosen planter or garden position. There's no lengthy revival period — just unpack, water, and plant.
Care guidance included
Each plant comes with basic care information covering watering, light, and seasonal considerations. For anything more specific, our team in Dunstable is available by phone during business hours.
Matching a Plant to Your Space
Choosing the right plant starts with an honest look at where it's going to live. Light levels, temperature range, humidity and how much attention you can realistically give it all matter more than which plant currently appeals visually. Indoor plants need to match your light conditions — a fiddle leaf fig struggles in a low-light hallway however much you like the shape of it, while a snake plant or a ZZ plant will thrive there. Outdoor plants need to match your climate zone, wind exposure and soil type. And whatever the setting, the plant needs a container of the right size — as a rule, the planter should be about one quarter to one third the height of the mature plant, with root space appropriate to the specimen. Getpotted's live plant range is chosen with UK growing conditions in mind, so what you're browsing will actually work in the conditions you have.
What to Do When Your Plant Arrives
Open the box within twenty-four hours of delivery — plants don't do well sitting sealed for long. Check the root ball is moist; if it feels dry, give the plant a good drink of water before doing anything else. Let the plant sit unwrapped in a shaded spot at room temperature for a few hours to adjust, then plant it into its intended container or garden position within a day or two. For outdoor plants delivered during the growing season, water thoroughly after planting and again every couple of days for the first fortnight until the roots begin to establish. For indoor plants, place away from direct hot sun or cold drafts for the first week, and hold off on fertilising for the first month while the plant adjusts to its new environment.
Why Getpotted?
Live plants sit at the intersection of quality control and delivery care, and both need to be right for the plant to thrive after it arrives. At Getpotted we take that end-to-end responsibility seriously. Our plants come from established UK and European nurseries we've worked with for years, are packed by our own team in Dunstable, and are dispatched with the right carrier for the size and fragility of the plant. If a plant arrives less than expected, replacements and refunds are handled directly by us — not through a third-party marketplace process. With a 4.7-star rating on Trustpilot from over 2,700 verified customers, including many who buy plants alongside their planters for a complete solution, you can order with confidence.
FAQ — Live Plants
Do you deliver live plants across the UK?
Yes — we deliver live plants across UK mainland. Delivery timings and any regional exceptions are listed on each individual plant product page. Highlands and offshore addresses may involve additional carriage or extended timings, which are noted at checkout before you order.
How are live plants packaged for delivery?
Root balls are wrapped to retain moisture, the plant is secured against movement inside a properly sized box, and seasonal packaging is added where relevant to protect against cold or heat during transit. Larger plants — mature trees, standards, tall specimens — are dispatched with additional support and often on pallet delivery rather than parcel service.
Can I buy a plant already potted, or do I need a separate pot?
Most of our live plants are supplied in their nursery growing container, ready to be transferred into a planter of your choice. This gives you full flexibility on the pot and lets you match plant and planter deliberately. If you want a plant and pot bundled together, our team can advise on the right pot for the plant you're buying.
What happens if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within seven days of delivery with photos of the damage and we'll arrange either a replacement or a refund. Damage in transit is uncommon but we handle it directly and quickly — no lengthy claims process. Our team in Dunstable answers the phone during business hours and can guide you through what to do.
What care does my plant need immediately after arrival?
Unpack within twenty-four hours, check root moisture and water if dry, and let the plant acclimatise for a few hours before planting into its chosen container or garden position. Water thoroughly after planting and keep an eye on moisture for the first two weeks. Avoid fertilising during the first month; the plant is settling in and doesn't need it.
Do you sell plants suitable for both indoor and outdoor use?
Yes — our live plant range covers both. Each plant product page states whether the plant is intended for indoor, outdoor or dual-use, along with light, watering and hardiness requirements. Popular indoor specimens include snake plants, monstera and fiddle leaf figs; outdoor ranges cover olive trees, standard bays, box topiary and ornamental shrubs.
